Wild story. I’ve seen the writing on the wall of layoffs. So I started looking a few months ago.

Layoffs are in 2 weeks. I was going to my my notice in next week but gonna go ahead and wait and get the severance pay and avoid a paycheck cut and get a pretty severance to pay off all CC debt!

This happened to me too. I was about to resign the week before they laid me off. Now I get severance and six month pay and I start my job in three weeks

Yes get the severance incase other offer falls through. It’s Q4 yearly layoffs. Good luck & take a sabbatical.

Are you in the black in tech Facebook group by chance? I read this exact story earlier on FB so crazy coincidence if not. I hope everything works out for you!

Hehehe yes

Hopefully the severance is decent. Do you have your new job lined up?

Yes! I signed everything just finishing the BG check!

Love this for you. A severance package right before the holidays will be nice as well. Good thing you were able to read the writing on that wall! I bet they were saying everything is fine and layoffs weren’t actually coming for months!

That is really great and I am so happy for you! Says a lot about being perceptive and anticipating trouble ahead. Tensions have been so high where I am at, I’ve also been testing the waters out there and seeing what could be my next move if/when things start happening here.

I love this for you ❤️

Love this! Same thing happened to me last year actually lol. I found a new job making a much higher salary (with a sign on bonus) AND got a severance package with my vacation paid out from my previous employer. Got to take about 8 weeks off of work and paid off a significant amount of debt, take a short trip to reset, and put some money away in savings. Love when it works out that way. Congrats.

Thoughts? This seems decent based on my research but couldn't find a ton of data points. What is the career trajectory/opportunity like is a Google CE? Opportunities to move to product later on or will I be heavily soloed within tech? How do refreshers work? For example at other tech companies I've heard only about 10% of a team might receive refreshers each year

It's sad to see people with 2-3 years of experience getting paid more than you when u have double the experience. 😄 Best part is they are still complaining of getting less. Well I guess you should never settle. New gen is giving a hard time to the experienced folks. I think this is the high time to upgrade your skills. Come out of your comfort zone and start looking for new opportunities. I think this is the best time to switch if u haven't already in quite some time.

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
