You weren’t going to get on before the FAs if they were being flown to work another route. Even as 1k, they’re not going to f over an entire other flight just so you can get where you’re going
Typically when crew trump passengers in irregular operations it’s because they’re “must fly” to avoid a downstream cancellation. In this case, all or part of the current crew were likely to be out of work hours for their next flight, especially if the flight is from a hub to a non-hub, where they generally won’t have many or backup crew, or they are needed there to replace another timing out crew. The least bad option becomes to put the deadheading crew in revenue seats and not take other passengers to avoid a much larger number of passengers being cancelled.
In a prior life I was an airline dispatcher and had to make decisions like this. It wasn’t for UA, and I don’t know their current decision tree for must-fly crew, but it’s likely to be highly similar to the rest of the industry.
Weather delays aren’t an airline’s fault..?
....until a flight attendant and her BF boarded as passengers. Then she offered to put me on standby but said the flight boarded full 🤔! 1K if it matters.
My return flight to Chicago got delayed til Saturday.. I just wanna go homee:(
I would like to believe that I am a reasonable person. FA was in uniform clearly with her BF... the way she delayed putting me on standby said a lot... I agree 1k shouldn’t matter in weather delays.
I've been jumped on the standby list, found out it was a FA that was qualified to fly in a jump seat. They still got a boarding pass. Possible that they were doing the same?
United is a hell of a lot better than American these days. Count your blessings
