I bought one for my son after he turned 7. I think you probably want to manage what games your kid plays and the time spent on it - it’s only a couple of hours on weekend days for my son.
Many kid friendly games. My 7yo loves the Mario party mini games and a coloring game, colors live.
Switch is great and my crew ranging from 8-3 love it. Only harm would be playing too much which you have to set firm boundaries about. Plenty of fun multiplayer games for the family too.
My 3 to 7 year olds love it and I play with them. Other kids play and did not want my kids to always lose to those kids
I think it’s probably the most kid friendly of all the systems out there. Lots of great games plus some of the classics
Switch 2 releasing next year, if you want to wait
I’d look at the ESRB age rating of games you get as well
You can also set timelimits with a parent app, and set access to specific games installed as well. The main thing to prevent is installation of youtube to let them go down the rabbit hole of awful content.
8.5yo son. Echoing the YouTube control. We made the mistake of thinking YouTube kids was “ok” for watching tutorials but the garbage is next level…. Lots of screening leading to frustrations on both sides (mine & my sons).
Switch is great. Get a proper switch with the controllers that disconnect (not the Lite or whatever) and play with your 6 yo if you can as many games are co-op.
Echo prior comments on game ages, screen time during week, etc.
I wouldn’t. I am pretty sure at that age the vid games would cause ADHD
