Hi Fishes, Pls help,
YOE: 13 yrs
Cctc: 13 lpa
Have cleared HCL interview. Initially they offered 23 lpa (via proposed offer letter), but i requested to reconsider it for 25 lpa.
After 5 days, they sent final offer letter of 19 lpa (stating they can offer max 50% as per L4 approval).
Queries:
1. Is this normal or rare case, reducing the offer amount from what quoted initially?
2. Should I accept or negotiate?
I don't have any other offer as of now.

These places are pretty much polar opposites in political beliefs, weather, types of people, and every other metric, plus there’s a huge variable depending on where in each state you’re talking about. Why exactly are you struggling with this question?
San Antonio? What about it?

My husband and I moved to Dallas from the east coast because of the lower cost of living, better quality of life myth. We moved after a few years there. Here’s why:
- The summers are unbearably hot. We grew to hate the summer months which seemed never ending.
- The mosquitoes are so bad and deadly there. We would have to soak ourselves in chemicals to be outside in the evenings. Our neighbor who was our age, got West Nile virus, spent months in the hospital and nearly died. It was awful. No thanks.
- It’s really not that cheap. Property taxes are really high to make up for no income tax. Sales tax is high too. Utility bills can be insanely high to cool off those giant houses in the summer (one house we looked at buying had electric bills of $800 a month in the summer!).
- It’s not a very pretty part of the country. It’s really boring geography, not much to do outdoors, and was just blah.
- Limited cool places to easily road-trip to visit. You can drive to Austin which is cool, but not much else is around. Every place requires a plane ride. You are landlocked without a massive drive compared to living on the east or west coasts.
For us, the quality of life just wasn’t there. We didn’t like it at all.
Also, I would not move there as a woman of child-bearing age given the abortion laws. Even if you want the pregnancy, if something goes wrong, you could end up dying or being permanently harmed because they won’t terminate when needed (e.g., ectopic pregnancy).

Depends on the neighborhood you move to, some areas have problems with mosquitoes. Most do not.
I’m in the same situation but the opposite. I live in TX and my SO just got a job in Boston so thinking of moving there next year. So good to see what others think. It’s goes for what things you enjoy doing then compare it with both states .
- if you love the sun and lakes and heat not an issue then TX
- I love nature and hate cold but TX too hot 🥵 if I go hiking have to go way early and back before 11 then after that stuck at home because the heat. tx heat stay the same till midnight.
- lakes, bars doesn’t attract me.
- everything expensive here too.
That’s the only one I can think of that is not muddy or has alligators. Texas ppl love lakes, but not the lakes that you can or would want to swim.
Go and get a feel for it. Don't judge how you will feel living in a state because of the states rep - or who gets elected, or the . Despite all the most states are 50/50 liberal conservative +/- 3%. Its almost imperceptible day to day -and you'll find your tribe wherever you go. MA is cold and full of cold people (I now I was one of them). TX is super friendly and you do get a whole lot more for your money.

I agree with CEO. Many non-Texans don’t realize that the state as a whole is obviously red, but every metro city in TX is actually blue. Some parts of Dallas and Austin are no different than walking around LA.
Stay In Massachusetts
I like Texas 🤠
Also, you are currently a student, are you employed yet, is your partner employed?
Could be easier to move where the work is to begin with, you don’t have to stay in one place forever.
I’ve lived in both Boston (for bschool) and Austin (immediately after bschool). I massively preferred Austin but I also hate being cold. I don’t think I would like other parts of Texas as much as Austin.
Texas is a cool place, I'd stay there

I enjoyed TX more than MA. As an immigrant/POC/with an accent, TX people have been more welcoming than MA. There is more diversity, great food, and great weather (I don’t like cold-snow).
Compromise. Go to NY 🌉
Texas, in a heartbeat. F%^ Taxachusetts and everything it stands for. I grew up in Minnesota and fled there as soon as I got my piece of paper since I'm not about to get screwed over by taxes.
Inb4 "property taxes are higher": land is a) cheaper in TX and b) don't buy a house twice the size of your original home lol
We moved from MA to MS. Holy Crap! Ended up in Nashville and have been here 20 years. Don’t come here because we are full but costs of living are much lower than the Northeast. There are crazy mofos everywhere so while you will deal with different attitudes about religion, the 2nd amend., and politics. Just live your life and you’ll be OK.
How many of you have lived in both? Try both then decide. You will be able to own a home in Texas, likely in or next to a major city. Unlikely to be very close to Boston. I personally don’t miss the snow or income tax.
Last point is to figure out which city. San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Ft. Worth, Houston, El Paso are incredibly different in culture, demographics, food, and things to do. Lot of New Englanders in the Austin-Round Rock area if you want the mix between progressive and conservative.
Oh I did this. I’ve lived in the south my whole life, and I lived in Texas for 6 years. I love MA and Boston. I’m a big fan of public transportation, and Boston is small enough to get to many places. But yes very different climates, political and otherwise
