These places are pretty much polar opposites in political beliefs, weather, types of people, and every other metric, plus there’s a huge variable depending on where in each state you’re talking about. Why exactly are you struggling with this question?
San Antonio? What about it?

My husband and I moved to Dallas from the east coast because of the lower cost of living, better quality of life myth. We moved after a few years there. Here’s why:
- The summers are unbearably hot. We grew to hate the summer months which seemed never ending.
- The mosquitoes are so bad and deadly there. We would have to soak ourselves in chemicals to be outside in the evenings. Our neighbor who was our age, got West Nile virus, spent months in the hospital and nearly died. It was awful. No thanks.
- It’s really not that cheap. Property taxes are really high to make up for no income tax. Sales tax is high too. Utility bills can be insanely high to cool off those giant houses in the summer (one house we looked at buying had electric bills of $800 a month in the summer!).
- It’s not a very pretty part of the country. It’s really boring geography, not much to do outdoors, and was just blah.
- Limited cool places to easily road-trip to visit. You can drive to Austin which is cool, but not much else is around. Every place requires a plane ride. You are landlocked without a massive drive compared to living on the east or west coasts.
For us, the quality of life just wasn’t there. We didn’t like it at all.
Also, I would not move there as a woman of child-bearing age given the abortion laws. Even if you want the pregnancy, if something goes wrong, you could end up dying or being permanently harmed because they won’t terminate when needed (e.g., ectopic pregnancy).

Depends on the neighborhood you move to, some areas have problems with mosquitoes. Most do not.
Chief
Please stay in MA, thanks.

Aside from your boyfriend, is there anything else at either place for you? Job, family, friends, support system? Don’t move for a boyfriend. That’s a fickle reason to uproot your life for.

Stay in MA
Massachusetts has a functioning electrical grid
The grid is run by politicians who do not plan, housing and development is the same. Property taxes are a little misleading because the most expensive place in Texas for property taxes only has less than 300 people in the whole county. Keep in mind in the valley probably has lower incomes than everything north of it. IMPO Greg Abbott is an idiot who only cares about fetuses, once they’re born they could give a shit care less. They’ve taken away money from CPS, public schools and teachers, they take money from developers and fossil fuel companies and run horrible negative ads. For the grid we’ll land exactly where California is if people continue to move here.
Rising Star
The infant and maternal mortality rates in Texas are bad, like 3rd world bad, so if you want to have kids eventually, you are much more likely to die (or for them to die) in TX then MA.
The homicide rate in TX is also 3x the rate in MA. Texas's violent crime rate is also 50% higher than MA. Texas is much less safe than MA.
Rising Star
We will see CW1. It used be true that you could say, as long as you aren't poor, you didn't have to worry about the abysmal maternal mortality. It was just that Texas didn't care about poor people so they couldn't access good medical care.
Now there are plenty of stories coming out of Texas that the anti abortion laws are interfering with care for pregnant women and increasing they're y risk of infection and death. Don't matter how good your hospital or doctor is if it is illegal to do the thing that helps save your life.

If it's CA, yes, but NO for Texas

I’m a Hispanic female. I live in Houston but I’m originally from Fort Worth. I would move back there in a heartbeat if I could make as much money as I do in Houston.
Fort Worth is totally different from Dallas. I’ve always described Fort Worth as a city with all of the big city amenities, but you still have the small town feel. The Bass brothers have invested a ton of $$ in Sundance Square and you can feel very safe down there at anytime.
Fort Worth has great museums and, Dickie Arena, Bass Hall & Casa Mañana all have fun and exciting events throughout the year.
The negatives are the food scene (might be better since I moved) and the airport is far away.
You will get all four seasons in Fort Worth. You are a few hours from the Texas Hill Country.
People on this App talk about how bad it is in Texas, but half of the country is conservative. Texans are warm and welcoming people (unless they are driving) and that is especially true in Fort Worth.
You should visit the city around Bluebonnet time in the Spring. It’s gorgeous over by TCU. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck! Where to live not an easy decision to make but if it’s for the right person then it’s worth it. Plus the Texas economy is thriving right now.
I feel like the thread op more or less qualified my statement.
Texas all day long.
Vacation in Mass, living there is brutal
Enthusiast
Agree, MA weather is brutal but DFW only has a few pleasant days a year. And hail so big it could kill you.
Nope. I live in MA, originally from NM, which I know is not TX, but I have a pretty good idea of it. TX is a hell of a lot cheaper, yes, but you get what you pay for in MA. By so many measures, MA is the best state in union. I wouldn't move away unless I absolutely had to, and that's to any state.
Do you value an acre, 5000 square feet, a pool, tacos and BBQ?
Enthusiast
The tacos and bbq are really the only good things about Fort Worth. They really are superb. I personally just think about all I have to clean when I hear about a 5000 sq ft house. Are you planning on having 5 kids? Maybe then it makes sense.

I'm in Dallas and deciding if I should move out. Isn't Boston like 1.5x more expensive than Dallas cost of living?
It’s a bargain if it has 1.6x better stuff in Boston, right? Just saying, not a conclusion. You will have to do the homework and decide individually, everyone’s scorecard is different and only yours matters; pure cost of living is not a good measure itself.
It’s one of those situations where you really really have to consider your experience and safety as a woman, in a state that doesn’t allow reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. It’s not something that men understand or even care until it personally affects them (but some do).
This means if you get pregnant and have complications, they won’t save you. POCs have higher risk pregnancies and maternal death, so this is something you must consider. My friend is currently pregnant in Texas with a high risk
Pregnancy, doctors notified her they may have to send her to another state if something goes wrong.
I don’t have to explain what it means if you get raped or your bf gets you pregnant by mistake, abortion is not an option.
On the other hand, you can move there and make things better by voting.
Or you know stay in blue states if you're blue and let red people enjoy our red states and don't come to them and try to ruin them like you did your home state. There's a reason the blue states all have declining populations and the highest population growth is in red states. If you people love what your blue policies do why are you all leaving your states and infesting ours?

The people in MA > people in DFW
Will you make over $1m/year, including any gains from selling a house? If so, factor in the new MA wealth tax.
