Would you take 8% pay cut to leave a toxic team and to a position more aligned to your career goals?

There is only one of you. If you cannot get ahead of the eightball and not living to your full potential, your work will also deteriorate. 8% cut may be worth it for your peace of mind body and soul. If you are in a position that is more inclined with your goals, your productivity and creativity will soar. you could overcome that 8% within a year if you are in an environment that cultivates your true talents. Taking in more poison will only make you sicker.

Could not agree more. Took on a role that has only led to depression, anxiety, and countless trips to the doctor due to health issues.

Would you take an 8% pay raise to work on a toxic team in a position less aligned with your career goals? Probably not.

Did this, and I have been regretting it so much. Looking back, I should have paid attention and questioned the high turnover

It depends what 8% of my salary is… if I’m making 20k, that’s a lot. If I’m making 200k, would probably take it

While making that change would be the better option for my mental health, I don’t think I could afford an 8% pay cut. It would be too large of a financial hit for me. So I would have to keep dealing with the toxic environment

like

It would depend on how much that 8% difference means to me. Currently, I could probably do it without too much added stress, but I wouldn't have been able to say so a few years ago. If the financial side isn't a big concern, I'd probably go for it. A toxic work environment can make life miserable.

like

I would. 8% will make even less difference, after tax

like

At this stage in my life, my peace is worth everything to me, so unless I was struggling or had specific large debt I had to pay quickly, I would absolutely do it.

like

No, I would keep looking for something at least at my pay rate, if not higher. Aim higher, not lower. As for the toxicity, learn to tell yourself that it’s just a job and they can’t eat you. Somebody told me that last one and it actually helps me when I’m stressed because it’s such an absurd thing to say.

Hello all,

I've just started my new role as HR state manager for a large international law firm.

I'm a male and my admin is female. After working with her for a week and discussing it with my wife, I think my admin is a little smitten for me.

I have no feelings towards her whatsoever and have been nothing but very professional in all interactions.

Was wondering best way to set boundaries from the start?
