CS and SWE is great in that it can be applicable to a great range of fields, to create immensely helpful tools for other things.

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.

How do I get a job as a Mechanical Engineer if I dont have experience?

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. I worked so hard to earn my degree and I feel like I’m not even using it. But who will hire me?

I have about $3M in net worth (retirement accounts, stock market investments, checking and savings account) Additionally, I have two homes about $1.2M in average market worth. Have been thinking about FIRE but at 2.5% rule I’m looking at about $100K in income annually and about $28K from rental income. Age is 48 going to 49. I was recently rejected for a position I was highly interested in and they rejected me based on my lack of experience with working for a bigger company. Otherwise, I know I was qualified. They have about 700 employees and I currently work with about 100 employees. How can I prepare for my future interviews where I can show that I can successfully transition and handle more employees as an HR Generalist?
