Just for the sake of the commute it’s worth it. You’d also pay less for childcare hours cutting out the commute and there’s savings in moving to a MCOL city. It’s a scary leap but kids are little for only so long and you have years of work ahead of you to switch back into high gear for your career. For me, working from home enabled me to breastfeed and pump for my baby for a full year and really reduced guilt and stress being away from him.
Not crazy. I have 3 school age kids and have a hybrid role now but am also looking at taking fully remote roles with a pay cut because it's just too much. The hustle and bustle is very demanding and with my husband going in everyday now, it's just a lot to try and figure out the logistics of school start and end times, the school-age child care (sacc) program for when I have to go into the office, running home to change and get whichever kid ready for a sports game or 6pm school performance. It's a lot ya'll. I think a fully remote role with a pay cut is totally worth it. Family is the priority.
Not crazy at all! I reduced my work schedule (and pay) by 40% when I had my first baby (more than a decade ago...I was also making more than husband at the time), and I don't regret it for a second. Define success for yourself. Is it making the most money you can make? Or is it making enough to help support your family and also spending more time with them?
If it was my boss’s decision then I could but I work for a large company with no leeway outside of the 4 days in office
Not crazy, I'd jump ship too
Also want to add that my current commute is 1.5 hours each way and if i took the remote role we’d hire a nanny in the MCOL city to come to our house so i could see my baby during the day but still be able to do work
