Oh, his conviction was more than justified and I am glad to see a police officer actually being held accountable for their actions. However, I know how things workout and I am concerned about what might happen on appeal. It is difficult to hold law enforcement officers accountable for their actions in the long run but time will tell.
Hoping this gets overturned quickly. I would never want to be a cop in today’s world where this fact pattern lands me in prison.
Imagine being in an elevator with a man holding a huge knife coming towards you just a step or two away. You have no where to run because you’re in an elevator and he’s not listening to anyone to drop the knife. He continues to come towards you. You have no choice but to either shoot or be stabbed or sliced to death. This is classic self defense.
I was in the military and served in combat. That life or death decision is not an easy one and happens in the blink of an eye. This officer rightfully feared for his life.
To add to this, the Travis County DA’s own typical expert witness in police shootings, Dr. Howard Williams, told the DA that the officer’s actions were justified so they chose to use a different expert here.
I can’t even believe charges were brought.
wow, this is a write up about the man the officer killed:
