I’m a creative and know the sentiment. You get unapologetically briefed on a Friday and the work is due Monday. You wonder if the suits and the planners sat on the brief a few days less then the time could have been shared.
But I know some account people who work just as hard as us, eves, weekends. Just their job may ask for that a little less frequently. But the good ones do go beyond normal hours. And if it is any condolence, we tend to get to the higher salaries quicker, get the credit at the awards shows, and get to wear ripped jeans and black tees all the time.
What year is this? Who dresses up to work in advertising? (I’m a planner, obvs)
Yep.
I’m glad you have the weekend off!
I can’t speak for all account people, but the occasional late nights and weekends are unavoidable for most people in this industry. if you find that you’re being asked to work many weekends, it just shows that you’re not being supported properly. sure, there are some shitty account people (just like there are some shitty creatives) but also a lot of us want to do right by each other.
You seamlessly spun the topic from “accounts people suck” to “those who came before us suck.” Impressive.
The answer is yes they did.
