You folks that hit space twice after a period just need to retire already.

They taught me to do that in the first grade and I will never change.

Some of old fogies who use two spaces have been working longer than you've been alive. Lol
I learned to type on a typewriter (hence the two spaces), filed documents by paper and by mail. Literally typed letters using carbon paper for letters. Look up what cc means.
We may be old school, but when stuff breaks, you can't get online, us old folks will get it done.
Now get off my lawn 😂😂

I just stopped doing this a month or so ago. I’m 34 and would retire but I can’t.

I’ll require a stipend. $80k per year will do. You pay, I’ll retire.

The best day of my legal career was learning you could tell Word that two spaces after a period was wrong so it flags it in spell check.

But no mention of the ego queens who think it's okay to treat other attorneys like garbage? Or hire based on pedigree over character? I think they need to go away already.

like

You just know if they treat other attorneys badly, staff ranks even lower on their scale.

Doesn’t MS Word automatically do that? By that I mean adjusting spacing after a period?

like

No

like

You can always CTRL+F global find/replace the period & 2 spaces with a single space. But incredibly time consuming the other way around, especially if case cites.

Formatting errors? Automatic spacing? Neither of these makes any sense to me, and no, it’s not more readable.

You don't have enough to do. Double space.

How is this thread still alive?

like

Yeah, you need to mind your manners.

Is that a conversation starter?

OP is right

The only time it doesn’t make sense is when the document is justified aligned. Any other time, it's a lie that the font automatically does it.

LMFAOOO. My last boss did this and it would drive me insane! He was forced to retire after 50+ years as an attorney in March. Miss that crazy man haha

I am 30 and this is the only acceptable way. Yes, there are two (2) spaces after that period. I wish I was able to retire. :P

Have a call on Friday with the CEO of an environmental entrepreneurship non-profit. It could lead to a professional opportunity and maybe even billable work I can refer to my firm down the line. I’m going in with an open mind but little concrete information on his entity and goals and ways I could get involved. What questions would you ask such a person?

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?
