Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

I live and die by my outlook and Google calendars. They act as my guardrails for focusing my time when/where it needs to be. When I don’t take the time to ensure each day has the time aligned where it should be, I lose my focus and F off. It’s legit night and day for me when I have a calendar lined out versus letting my day come by surprise. If I know I need time to make/review a deck or prep for a meet I throw it in there as a meet for myself to have that time for that instance.
This is extremely good advice.
Struggling with the same thing. Writing down how completing my task will make me feel helps some time. For example, completing task X will show colleague y I am competent and I am a sucker for their approval. Silly but real stuff like that
This is a great idea!!

Have and pursue goals relentlessly, that’s all that I have seen work.
If you can’t be arsed to chase the goal then you don’t really want it.
Loud fast Music with a loud bass (e.g. EDM style) helps keep me driven and blocks out many of the distractions. I use headphones to keep it focused. It works like 70% of the time for me but the distractions / bleh feeling make it hard for me to get the headphones on some days….

To be disciplined at doing an activity regularly, you have to answer the most important question: why? You need to find the purpose behind an action, and once you find that purpose and deeply understand why you’re pursuing it, then you’ll have no issues with discipline.
I.e. Deadlines work well for many reasons as you suggested because there is a purpose behind them - if you don’t accomplish something within a given timeframe, your ass will be on the line, hence you push through it no matter what to get things done.
Use the same approach, hold yourself accountable and make it public. The more people know of your goals/ambitions, the less likely you will slack. Now you told the world what you’re going to do and if you’re unable to make it through, your reputation will be on the line. Increase the stakes, put yourself in a high risk situation and I assure you, you’ll pull through.
I used to have trouble with multi-tasking but I find keeping a weekly TODO list from which I take daily as needed helps. Lot of times I have downtime when I didn't know what to do, so I would waste time on Social Media. Now, I just pull something small (maybe finishing a mandatory training, maybe responding to a colleague about something they want my opinion of, watching a video or reading a paper I need for work, etc off the weekly list and complete it. I also cross off items off the list daily, which gives a sense of accomplishment. Also, if possible, try to reduce meetings -- ask yourself or the organizer if your presence is really needed, they are huge time sinks for me, and also often disrupt the flow of work without providing equivalent benefit.
