SOS! We brought home our second child a week ago and while my nearly 4 year old son has been nothing but completely loving and sweet to the baby he’s been throwing at least one epic tantrum (screaming, banging on his door, throwing toys in his room) for the past several days. He’s normally very mellow but just us saying no over the simplest thing sets him off. Resources? Tantrum tactics that work for you? We’re at a loan
I just did my nails for the first time in over a year. (Pregnancy.. childbirth.. raising an infant who needed me every 2 hours all day and all night until recently...) A small bit o sun.
How are you all addressing the current events with your kids? I’ve been using the sites “Conscious kids” and “here we read” for books and information, but my kid is 3 and doesn’t even understand between boy and girls, so I’m not sure how racism is going to be introduced in a way that is thoughtful and useful.
Miscarried my 1st. Thank god have a healthy 2yr old. Now 5 weeks preg and spotting.... Panic. Anxiety. Fear... Just went to Dr who said all looks ok!! Praying for continued health but nervous too...
Have begun staying off mute in every meeting to remind my co-workers of the absolute chaos parents are still working through. They were supportive at first but kinda forgot along the way.
Breastfeeding / pumping mamas - how do you do it?? I'm a first time mom 1 month into mat leave and I can't imagine going back to work and doing this...
Today, I got up, made coffee, changed and fed the baby, prepped a presentation, forgot my 6yo’s Zoom class, got her up and on the Zoom class, presented ugly news to my MD, did a school drive-by parade, fed the kids lunch, met with my directs, prepped the follow ups from the MD presentation, taught 4 homeschool lessons, said goodbye to my mentor, prepped for a pitch, cooked dinner, made my weekend to-do list, gave two baths, and scooped poop out of one bath. It was a slow day.
Anyone know if there are laws that prevent you from being furloughed or let go or any significant change to your position within X months of your maternity leave return?
Help - anyone at a startup? I’m about to announce I’m pregnant and don’t know what I should ask for.
Working from home with a 4 year old and a new pay cut. This is my day tomorrow. What the actual F am I supposed to do. Seems like employers forgot that there are still no schools, no childcare, no nannies, no play dates, no libraries, no open parks...the situation (in NYC) has not changed. And yet....
Have any moms out there explored the ‘expanded family and medical leave’ as part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). I am considering it under qualification 5 related to childcare due to covid-related closures. Just curious what folks have learned and if anyone is using it.
I was going to go for kid number two this summer, but then covid happened and I was laid off. Partner is in the film business and nothing is shooting until at least August. Thought I’d just have to postpone everything since neither of us is working and we have to do fertility treatments, but starting to think maybe should just go ahead and do it. I’m 38. I don’t think this is going to be magically better in six months. I’m probably going to be freelancing anyway, no one is hiring. Crazy?
Okay moms, when are you visiting the grandparents again? We don't live in NYC so my parents think it's safe to visit my 3 year old, but I know they'll be hugging and picking her up if they see her.
Hi to all the mamas who have been laid off! I’ve been laid off since the start of this whole mess and wondering what other mamas (especially the single ones like me) are doing/thinking/feeling about their next steps? Just looking for some comrades here as I’m feeling a little daunted at the fact that no one is hiring right now. Anyone need any score work/music for their projects? At this point, I’m super happy to do spec work just to keep busy and feel creative still.
Well just finished working through the weekend. By this I mean: Friday: 9 Am - 11 pm. Saturday: 2 Pm - 10 pm. Sunday: 3 pm - 1 AM. Tomorrow will be another all day/all nighter. As a CD, I signed up for it, but working these hours with a young kid at home during a NYC quarantine is absolutely batshit crazy. My love and sincere support to all parents out there. A special shoutout to my support system: my CD partner, my husband, and Tito’s vodka.
Does anyone here use a nanny/ sitter during these Covid times? If so, what is the arrangement? My husband and I talked about potentially finding a live-in person but not sure that’s even possible.
How does one deal when miserable at job? I feel ungrateful at this time when so many people are out of work. Who know I might be soon. Still feeling the feelings of misery.
If you usually have a nanny/sitter come to your house, have you asked them to stop coming to your home due to COVID-19? Curious if you are continuing to pay your childcare provider, let them go, or have another arrangement.
