Always 1 page (15+ YOE for me).
Either, 2 page is likely fine but no no matter know that the stuff on the first page will be more heavily scrutinized anyway
1. I’ve see CEOs with 1 page. You can do it.
100%
I’ve been told by many recruiters that since all companies use ATS to filter resumes anyways it’s okay to have a 2 page resume. I don’t have a significant amount of experience but I took on a few contract roles which take up a lot of real estate on my resume forcing it to be 2 pages.
Perhaps for junior roles or highly technical roles. I’m telling you, once you’re recruiting at a more senior level, one page is a must.
I wouldn’t look twice at a two page resume. I know what I need to know. You can’t take complex topics and simplify them adequately.
It’s very easy to condense old roles and have general sections at top that summarize different functional expertise.
I think you need to look at your situation and decide.
1 page is ideal if:
1. You have fewer employer changes in your 10 yoe,
2. Your work exp and target roles are fairly well aligned, standard and well known within your sector/function, e.g., BA, SBA, Manager etc
3. You are reaching out thorough referrals, recruiter reach outs and ATS optimization is not your goal
2 pages are ideal if:
1. You’ve had 3 (or more) employers in your last 10 yoe, in which case, your 1-page resume will be full of employer name blocks
2. You’re cold applying a lot and ATS keyword optimization is important
3. It’s more technical role (think of R&D, engineering, cybersecurity) where you’d need to demonstrate domain knowledge which may include lots of acronyms
11 YOE and 1 page. Agree with BCG1, always 1 page for a resume
I use 2 page with 15+ YOE and it works fine and I got recruiters calls and other interviews. Nowadays they are read by ATS
Coach
1 page of you’re handing it to a person, 2 pages if AI is reading it
I have used a 1 page resume for 16+ years until a recruiter told me to do a 2 page with my experience. Open to others thoughts though
For those saying only 1 page — how many bullets for each role? I’ve had 5 roles and I think I’ll be at the point with my next resume to keep it to a page.
Will vary by impact. You also don’t have to include every role
1 page
1 page always. The only exception is if you're an academic and have published works or research - which isn't this bowl nor line of questioning.
