It’s not as horrible when you view them as a whole but some schools individually had some pretty large swings. Harvard in particular.
I’ve never put my race on my college or law school applications. I didn’t put it when I bought my house either. I’m Black American. The racial tracking obsession in the US has done more harm than good over the last few decades in my opinion, it’s used more to discriminate or place barriers than to remediate them as it was in the past.
If you look at Black American progress since the Civil Rights Act was passed, it’s stagnant or worse in most cases. This is from the late 90s, but see how much of it resonates with you. There’s also a section that assesses the impact of affirmative action. In my opinion, affirmative action when it was designed for those most harmed by economic policy in the US worked, but when it’s open to everyone who isn’t a straight Caucasian male, it doesn’t really benefit Black Americans. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/black-progress-how-far-weve-come-and-how-far-we-have-to-go/
I’m a racial justice civil rights lawyer working on fed policy for what it’s worth, and I often find myself questioning the grandstanding over progress for Black Americans over the last few decades. The poverty numbers are depressing.
Can you please post this in the black in law bowl?

Honestly, not as bad as I thought it would be.
