Any advice on getting salvage bids for a damaged car? Insurance has given me a $400 bid but I'm not required to accept it. Damage to the bumper, both front fenders and hood, engine and rest of the car is fine. I had just put in a new Bosch alternator that cost me $380 🤦♀️
I am a 3rd year senior associate in alternative investment tax and up for manager promotion this year. I really dislike the long hours of this job and seeking to make a move. Although I’m not sure i necessarily want to stay in tax. I have a young toddler at home and want to find a job i like, makes decent money, and has decent hours so i can spend more time with family.
Has anyone been in a similar position and made a move? Can you please share your experience? Thanks!
I have heard that Goldman Sachs is rescinding offers of temporary contract workers. I have an offer letter from Goldman Sachs Bangalore for a full time permanent role and am already on notice period. There is still 2 months for the joining date. Is there a hiring freeze coming? If yes, will they rescind offers that have already been made? Goldman Sachs
Boss is gaslighting? Just experienced this for the first time - and would love to hear others’ experiences, too. For the past few years, my micromanager boss asked that I send them every draft of every contract to review, no matter how minor. In my performance review, when asked why I wasn’t promoted, they said that a reason was because I need to learn to stop sending them drafts to review! I said that I only did this because they asked for it, and they said they don’t remember saying that!

Trying to gauge an offer, thanks in advance! 🙏
Does a lateral move between firms make sense just to get better practice alignment? Or is it better to wait and push for a transfer within your own firm - even if it takes more than a year?
What is the name of the firm you work for and did they pre-hire drug test you for cannabis?

I am ESL teacher. At my last school I did push in and pull out. However I felt like I was never a real teacher and was more like the support teacher and was ignored. Does anyone else feel like that?
How on earth are you guys getting into these AMD calls for 5/1? The theta is scaring the devil out of me. I almost went with the peer pressure yesterday and then backed out (I am bullish in AMD)

For those who were once in Big Law, how long did you stay in Big Law? What prompted you to leave? For those still there, how long have you been there? I am wondering how common my tenure is (staying less than 3 years)
I hope this helps a lot of people…
Anybody look into making a career pivot into program management?
Or really, anything???? Anything besides law???
I work at a firm that is predominantly white. We live in an area that's predominantly Hispanic, but they don't speak Spanish. I do and I'm always used as a translator. It's very annoying because I don't even get brought it on the case. They only want me to translate or talk to witnesses and that's it. It takes me away from my real work. I'm considering removing that I am fluent in Spanish from my resume to not deal with this in the future. Anyone dealt with this before?
I plan on applying for a chief deputy clerk of court federal position. Would like to chat with someone on the federal level about resume/interview expectations. This is my first time applying at the federal level. Im currently working in the municipal level. TIA

I’m the only black corporate associate at my firm (AM Law 200). It’s recently come to my attention that I’m getting paid the same as associates with far less experience, but still mentoring and leading on deals. Then they brought in more white associates making far more than I do, still less experience. Comp is a black box here, but I’ve managed to figure it out. Interviewing at other firms at this point. I don’t feel like asking these people to treat me fairly. Anyone else ever experience this?
I want to get box braids before I head back into the office in two weeks. My colleagues have never met me face to face as I was hired during the pandemic. Should I wait to get this hairstyle or do whatever I feel like doing? When I was in law school, a career counselor told me to never get braids as an associate.
0 partners of color in group of 20 partners
Was told the lack of diverse partnership was because there wasn’t good minorities to hire. How do I even address this stupidity.
Did anyones firm send out an firmwide acknowledgment of MLK day today? Or encourage attorneys to participate in service?
Attorneys of Color in New York, what's your stance or thoughts on NY's Concealed Carry Improvement Act? A lot of our communities are disproportionally exposed to gun violence for a lot of reasons, especially in the city.
What’s the best experience you’ve had in big law as a POC? (inspired by the “worst experience” thread)
Searched different bowls and apparently someone else asked recently with only a couple replies, but has anyone worked at Saul Ewing or have any insights into cultures etc? Likely corporate in the DC office but general as well.
I personally hate working holidays related to minorities or during race history months at least at my current firm. The amount of cringey, borderline racist shit I've heard in the office today is disgusting. Didn't know that non-Indigenous people still referred to Indigenous people as Indians, but I sure got a wake-up call today. Yikes.
Hoping to get trial XP soon. Any recommendations for good guides on evidence? Particularly for mastering objections. Thanks in advance!
The thought that’s been occupying my mind all day: Do men appreciate when we’re upfront from the beginning (i.e. talking stages)?
Hello everyone. McCarter & English - anyone willing to share thoughts on the firm’s culture? Interested in transactional and public finance. Any info/insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It all depends on how much free time you have. My wife and I started an LLC to use as a shell company for real estate purchases. Bought two condos (not all at once), cleaned them up on weekends, and rented them out for $1300 a month. Small time commitment as the condo association handles many issues itself. A little maintenance is required from time to time but that's all.
Assess your talents. You might have several options. Try writing a book, fiction or non, and selling that on Amazon. Market yourself as a freelance editor or blog writer. You've got any number of options, just depends on how obligated your time is in law practice.
