I did ID for 6 years and just got burnout (both in-house and mid size firm life). I went Gov doing employment law and fraud matters. I do more consulting on litigation v. being in court. The work load isn't nearly as demanding and the pay is pretty decent.
My work life balance is great!!!! Get more time with my family and can actually take vaca days without having to check my phone all the time.
I went In house and have been much happier
I went to big 4 L&E to do more substantive employment work. Currently working on a lot of non EPLI matters and have decent WLB with the low minimum billing (after all the allowances)
Technically I had employment experience from working on the EPLI matters. So I played those up and talked about the litigation skills like questioning the family of a decedent during trial. Employment law isn’t hard to learn honestly. My firm gives credits for pro Bono so that reduces my billable requirement
I went from ID to becoming a public defender. Best decision of my career. Take the leap and follow your gut.
