A friend of mine makes $190k in fintech and hates his job. I make $115k in public finance and love mine. We keep arguing about “who’s better off.” So… who is better off?

Comparison is the thief of joy. If your salary allows you to live the life you want and you’re happy, who cares. Let him make more and hate his job because in the end, money doesn’t matter. Your quality of life does.

Yeah it’s a thief but again money isn’t everything

I think your friend is better off bc it’s probably easier for him to find another job (perhaps he will be happier with) making the same money than your salary getting up to his level.

Typical FA comment, wishy washy, there are always ifs, just have a view! lol

both of you are better off for having a friend in the other

What does this even mean?

A religious text I am familiar with asks the following question;
Who is rich?
The answer is;
He who is happy with his lot.

THIS!

I would be better off making more I think . As long as I can get through my 8 hours a day I don’t have to love it. Heck, I make nowhere near that and I’m not exactly in my dream role. If I made more it would change my outlook on going in daily lol

But you hate your job. So you’re a masochist ?

You. Money is amazing but if you’re not happy then it don’t mean anything

I try not to compare myself to others, even though it can be extremely difficult. I’ve noticed all it does is make me more cynical

In house interview- I am going to hopefully the final round of interview to meet the whole legal team. I was asked about my availability, and it will take 5 hours if in one day. Should I split to multiple days? Will it cause any issues? Anyone on both sides can speak from their experience? Thanks!

This is super weird but I feel like I can’t relate easily to people. Hear me out - I moved and lived in different continents, countries every 5 years or so until now… I feel like I’m an outlier and my life is super different from anyone else’s. I have some friends I’ve met at each stage of my life, but it’s been temporary. I feel like I’m always going in a different direction than others. It makes it difficult to have a stable life and close friends..

Anyone else getting pretty harsh feedback on your candidacy as a whole from Maria at applicant lab? I feel like I have a doable shot at my target schools based on gpa, gmat and essays but every time she reviews she suggests I have no chance. It’s been pretty discouraging.

What’s the hiring market like in Texas for a 4th year investment management associate? I’m interested in Austin but understand there may be more opportunities in Houston or Dallas. Graduated with honors and on law review at a T14, if that helps at all.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

User experience mgr salary? I support six product teams and eight reports. 20+ years experience
