Best agile teams are always self managed, scrum masters are there for making sure that team is self managed along with other ceremonial meets and day to day activities.
Your problem: your team is self managed and you find it your role had nothing much to add.
My view: Your team is doing good and as Scrum master you should be happy with this team but You are looking for some challenge where you can guide the team which having problem with their execution/delivery/practices. I think you should look for technical manager/Product owner or engineering manager role and not scrum master role.
Poor velocity: Measuring of the velocity of scrum team is not the right way to measure the success. You also agreed that client changes the requirement which leads to poor velocity. It should be call of Product owner/Product manager how much they want to deliver it and as per capacity planning. If PM thinks that due to client way of working and changing requirement team is doing good and happy with team output no need to worry about velocity.
Team thinks that they know everything: Sometimes teams are well experienced and they know what they want to achieve it. Retrospectives is all about team, if team thinks that they don’t need to change anything nothing wrong in it. Considering 2 week sprint and sprint no 40, team has worked for more than 1.5 years on this product/project.
You being contract SM: I have seen this bias towards contractor employees in many companies in India. As I don’t know your work culture I would not be able to add more on this. But if you think this is the case than you should speak with someone has control of this, but most of the time they don’t care about what contractor is thinking/saying. Have seen this many times.
From your comments what you are looking is team which needs help with your experience. While your current team is self managed, PM is active and doing all thing to help the team. Role of SM will be limited to this only. If you are looking for more than this go for other role or other team which needs your help.
Thanks again for inputs I really don't want to be a mere spectator in the teams work - just yesterday team had a release and i was not even involved - is it like my job to question what they are doing when they already know the what they have to do - PO emailed at the end good job and that's how I came to know release is completed.
I am trying hard to switch from my current org but the job market looks gloomy - I am not even receiving a single call post spending atleast 2 hours applying to LinkedIn , naukri etc.. this is exhausting nothing to do and so much to do situation. Sorry for spamming again.
Are you working in EY as scrum master with contract role? If yes, you can change project easily since you have already spent 1.5 years in this project.
It has only been 2 months on this project , 1.5 years with EY. The project is going on since 1.5 years
Talk to your manager or supervisor that u have stabilized the team enough and looking for new opportunity (as per your interest)
Never portray urself negative
Move on - thats true no work no growth
Mu counsellor said that there is always room for improvement and wants me to reach to Agile coach for guidance. I have made my mind to move out of the org please please let me know if anyone can REFER me to roles like PMO, SM. I would be really grateful. Thanks.
