I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

Take it and keep looking for something permanent
1000% this. Income vs No income at all, I’d take income over no income any day of the week
V1 is correct. Take it! It’ll give you experience, build your confidence and make you more desirable as you interview. And, contract roles can sometimes be expended and provide other opportunities.
I think it would be short-sighted not to take it. Congrats.
Take it. Don't worry about the what ifs that are not even real yet.
Personally, I’d lean toward taking the 3-month FP&A contract. Being unemployed for a few months can start to feel like a bigger gap than it really is, and a solid contract (good pay, interesting work, remote) keeps your skills sharp and your resume active. Most hiring managers get that short-term contracts happen, and it can actually show you’re flexible and proactive.
I agree with the other commenters reasons to take it. Additionally, hiring slows down around the holidays, then picks up again in the new year after bonuses are distributed.
As a hiring manager, I'd be much more probing about someone who'd sat around for months without employment, than someone who'd taken contracts until something permanent turned up. Are you so wealthy that you are happy to forego a salary for 3 months?
Last time I was laid off I lived off my severance package for 6 of the 12 months. The market then, like now, was trash.
Take it and keep interviewing.
It might be short-term, but it may open doors to something permanent. You can also spin this as an opportunity to keep skills sharp if/when interviewing for your perfect job and they discuss gap/temp role.
Good Luck!
I would also consider taking it, but be mentally and physically prepared to put in extra hours applying for jobs outside of your work hours and finding ways to speak to recruiters and interview in the middle of the work day.
Of course take it, it’s like saying no to winning the lottery, is it life saving, no? It’s income coming in, keeps you busy and you never know, it might become permanent plus it’s another talking point in interviews.
