Can you share what agency said this so I can never work there?
As soon as your CDs have the tiniest reason to throw you under the bus to make themselves look better, they will. You are one bad client call away from finding out that your supposed friends are scum too.
Stop looking. You need to turn around; the ghost only comes to you when you're not staring at it! Concentrate on what makes your soul feel fulfilled, not your wallet. Use this as an eye-opening experience. I've been there and gone through something very similar
I absolutely LOVE this perspective. Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your loss and for the way those awful, awful people treated you. As someone who lost a parent recently, that’s the most callous, disgusting thing I’ve ever heard. I’m sorry I have nothing to offer but words of encouragement, and to just let you know you’re not alone in this.
Thank you all for your compassionate responses. I just needed a little vent and some support. This helped.
It's not just venting, you are sharing your pain. Totally legit, okay, and a good thing. Your creative peers, us, are listening. Hope you feel at least a little better. Go kick some a-s-s. Signed; From Chicago
Jesus, honestly not much different here. People lack complete empathy and to have experienced those profound loses one right after another are incredibly difficult to navigate, process and overcome alongside all the grief and confusion.
What market are you in?
Have you looked into a lawsuit-esp letting you go right after bereavement.
Also name and shame. Don’t let those asholes get away with that behavior.
You can always name them. That severance paperwork typically holds no weight. Currently going the legal route with a former agency.
Omg that is fkd up. Good riddance to that company. Time to start your own thing and rethink career change. I got out of design. Im opening up my own food truck! Sorry you’re going through this but look at the freedom and opportunities that could happen. Your parents are watching over you from above.
Yes, because selling potato chips or Coke or a messaging app is the most important thing in life. I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through. I hope the second half of 2025 improves for you.
The high horse ad creatives are on is insane.

Damn! I’m sorry to hear what you’ve been dealing with. Leadership can be so heartless at times. Saw a real good coworker let go recently because their manager felt they were “too distracted by what was going on at home.” They are dealing with a sick loved one and also recently lost a good friend and they were told to leave it at the door.
Oddly enough, when their boss had hard days they asked my friend for patience and grace because the boss is dealing with this, that, and the other.
Have you tried taking the skills and experience you have and maybe pivoting to something else (digital, healthcare, fintech, etc.) just to pay the bills or maybe something more steady than the typical agency, assuming that’s where you were working.

Yikes….
Holy shit. I’m very sorry. One of my parents is also terminal, I’m worried about the other one (broken heart and all). Also long distance. I worry about this exact scenario. Just sending solidarity.
So sad to hear about your losses and ordeal. Hope things get better for you. That said, find a great labor attorney, offer them a big cut, and sue your former boss back to the stone age. Rock on.
Sorry to hear, Burnett is dog doo doo. Suggest, get your friends together, create an original biz format / approach, and start a fresh company. Have done this 3 times in 50 years, and it is a solid survival tactic. Plus, you can sell those entities for a nice profit. Did.
