As an employee at pwc, can I sign “Form 3115s?” Is that allowed? Also, can I sign these forms for companies in California even though I’m a TX licensed CPA?

You’re asking about signing a change in accounting method for a tax form? You don’t need any credentials other than a registered PTIN to sign a tax return. Being a CPA, EA, or JD affords you the ability to have a POA and transact on a taxpayers behalf. The CPA also allows you to attest to financial statements being fairly represented.

TLDR; tax preparation has less requirements. Check with your specific firm policy on signing requirements this may have a higher requirement.

You’re asking this question, so I can say the answer is no.

Not sure about PWC, but at KPMG, only PPMDs can sign unless they designate someone in an email. Can be blanket, has to be for a certain situation, return, etc.

like

*can’t be blanket

I believe NTS needs to review but local STS partner usually signs the 3115. Common for others to be on 2848 POA.

like

I’d agree on this as well. Normally the 3115s having to be mailed out before the return is filed, thus, NTS will process all mailings of the 3115s and POAs.

like

I’m a manager and I regularly sign 3115s.

Thank you KPMG 1!

I’m surprised. Usually only NTS signs 3115s in my experience. Maybe I’ve just dealt with more complicated ones

Thank you to those who have answered! I would like to clarify that I’m an associate and these forms are not for pwc clients

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
