Absolutely wild. Have a 2023 Q7. Battery died yesterday. I swapped it out and same result, dead car. Had the car towed via Audi Care to the dealer. Dealer calls me today and says oh yeah, you cannot simply replace the battery, we must do the OBD scanner, tell the car there is a new battery, etc. I’m baffled. So what - people have to guess when the battery will die, bring it to the dealer prematurely, and pay these idiots $700 to do this? I’m absolutely livid.

Welcome to 20 years ago. This has been a thing with German cars for a long time lol

Yeah, the stupidity of telling the car that you have a new battery extends beyond just German cars. My question is why didn't whoever sold you the battery do it? They obviously have an ODB2 scanner - even places like Advance Auto have those handy. Is it a specialized application to register a new battery that only the dealer has?

like

I get it. Modern vehicles are wonderful when they work. There's not a ton you can do anymore when they don't.

The alternator in many german cars gives varying voltage out. You have to reset that with the new battery goes in. Insanely stupid. Not 100% sure but appears my gear wrench obd2 will do it. Check them out. (On sale too) https://a.co/d/0hzj54OX

You can do that and 100 other things. For the money, it’s super impressive. Gets constant updates.

Reading this made me go outside and hug my 2019 GX. I really wanted a Q7 to replace it. Now leaning towards a LX or giving in to a Cayenne.

My 2014 A6 had the most expensive maintenance of any car I’ve ever owned. Every regular maintenance visit was $1000+. I’m in my third BMW since then and the BMW maintenance has been much cheaper.

Lol never thought I would hear BMW is cheaper. I’m close to getting rid of the car, but it would be at a loss and I’m just not comfortable with that. We have had so many electrical problems with this car.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.
