Bain & Company I have a second round with Bain & Company coming up at the DC office for Experienced Consultant role. Excited, but hella nervous. Recruiter said it’d be 3 separate interviews, all with Partners; 2 case, 1 fit. About 40 mins each. First round was 2 case interviews with Sr. manager & Associate Partner. Been a rough year, so definitely looking forward to this opportunity. I’ve been on the site and going through preparation and materials. Any advice or suggestions welcomed!

Unfortunately sometimes it has nothing to do with your performance, it might have something to do with the firm’s performance aka the budget, when they don’t need you they would plan for it, PIP is one of the strategy.
That happened to me. I'd been doing the same job for 5 years and asked for something more challenging. All of a sudden my work was subpar and I was placed on PIP. While with my Supervisor and talking with HR, I put in my notice effective immediately and explained everything to HR and informed them to act immediately or face a lawsuit from someone else. I week later a former co-worker informed me that our department manager had been reassigned and there was a big meeting on how my issue should never happen again. You need to get out as quickly as possible, but don't jump at the first thing. Also, don't be afraid of being unemployed for a while. You may need to take contract work until you find the right fit
this is why i don’t pour myself into work anymore. hope you find something that is worth pouring yourself into.
Something similar happened to me. I think they wanted me quit rather than firing me. Document everything if you suspect discrimination and talk to an employment lawyer. Update your resume and start applying to jobs. The best route I found was talking to recruiters at staffing firms and see what other opportunities are out there. Sorry you are going through this and good luck.
I sorry you went through that also. It’s crazy how disrespectful they can be. I hope you win a big amount from them.
I get it. I went through something similar. My direct manager salvaged my job at least, but soon after the 1st of this year I was laid off with other employees at the company. I think it was just an attempt to skip the layoffs.
Yup Crowe did this as well
Getting PIP'd out can happen when they no longer have a business case for your position.
The fact that they won't tell you is concerning. Do you want to fight to stay in a place that is communicating a message to you that you're no longer valuable to them?
Look ip Chad Elkins on YouTube and Google him. He got sick of firm garbage and started his own. You are clearly being squeezed for political reasons. Also remember Corporate never was or is a meritocracy. You got this. You will figure it out and be better off.
Same thing just happened to me I am going to take the 60 day option with pay while I look for work at another big 4
What’s this option you speak of?
It's not you. It's them. Document the hell out of everything, and be sure to go claim unemployment when they let you go. If you have documented everything including the good reviews you will qualify for unemployment. And then revel in the fact that their FUTA and SUTA are going up up up LOL I'll bet you that hot bonus I ain't getting that they will let you go - that is the plan when they put someone who hasn't done anything wrong on PIP. Better polish up your resume.
If the company removes you, sometimes they’ll give you a severance. If they do, if they make the severance conditional on you not filing unemployment or filing legal action, just know they can’t prohibit you from filing unemployment, especially if it is performance related. If they do, it’s an illegal waiver of claims. If there is any aspect of discrimination on matters that are a protected class, then they can’t enforce an agreement to not file a discrimination claim. I could have filed an EEOC claim because I have a disability and my Evals referenced the disability, but my wife fought hard to make sure I didn’t. I’m not sure how serious “acts discreditable” really is, but my old firm dodged a bullet. CPA partners are not lawyers.
Pick your poison. If they give you an out with a severance to look for a job and you take it, you likely won’t qualify for unemployment. If they let you go and still give severance, then you can file unemployment.
My experience has been the PIP is just a formality to make it appear they tried. You’ll be sabotaged in your efforts to be successful. I was put on a client doing AR testing. I emailed 25 confirms out on Tuesday of week 1, by Thursday I had 3 responses. They pushed me to do alternative procedures for the remaining 22 customers but the client only got me sales orders and invoices, not the shipping docs. Week 2 bumped me to a different client and that Monday I got the remaining shipping docs in the evening for week 1s client. I got the testing for week 1s client done on Wednesday night, but was told it took too long. Oh, week 2s client resulted in an odd computer crash that caused me to lose 2 days worth of work despite me backing up the work.
Begin looking for another job. You are put at a disadvantage in interviews when you are asked what happened at your last job. It’s a tough job market now too. I was out of work for 10.5 months. I would have been screwed if I didn’t know my rights.
SM2 youbare either green or are the person pushing out for superficial reasons. Just because OP said PIPs does not mean they were on multiple. If you are on a PIp or are in danger of being on one you do research and talk to people about your situation and similar experiences about them. You are twisting their verbiage and making presumptions.
All I know is Ive never seen a top performer put on a PIP. Even if its a budget cut thing, youre not at the top of the list if you're the one they're trying to force out.
Yea, "Im a great performer and did absolutely nothing to jeopardize my position and they just wanna fire me for absolutely no reason so they put me on a PIP out of the blue!" In an industry starving for talent, let's PIP our high performer for no reason. Sounds very realistic and not delusional at all.
We can only hope to get the accolades we deserve from deserving organizations soon
What is pip?
Performance Improvement Plan
Oh my this sounds like my situation, I have been in the Accounting field for over 50+ years, and the later part of 2024 has been the worst of all my years in Accounting, l have never been in this position, anyone that knows me and my work ethic wouldn't believe it. I'm the person that comes in early and leave when everyone is gone home. I really loved what I did,
After being with this company for 5 years and a new supervisor last 4 months of 2024, all they did was complain about me to the point of being put on PIP, I never heard of PIP,
until then, now this supervisor had it in for me. It was so bad, I continued to get sick. It got so bad, I just had to resign. After I resigned, I had no energy, no will to get out of bed. I had to detox my mind from what I been through with this company. I know I have a long road ahead of me, because of my age. It's so unfair how these companies mess with dedicated workers. It is so sad
Hang on in there, it has to get better.
You know during Covid I’ll admit I wasn’t A gaming it but I was put on one. 5 years later I’m glad like really glad I’m not at said firm.
Trust me go do the next best thing now and you ll probably be $$$ better off
It’s a cya pip and they’re looking to get rid of you. Plan your exit.
