You’re not stupid, the audit role is
Network, do a rotation in advisory and try to get a full time offer there instead. Avoid any type of audit if you can
Unfortunately the learning and development during your internship hinges on how much care and effort the team and office puts into it. I hope the first week is a one off and it turns around for you.
I didn’t understand anything during my internship and I was auditing futures. I was so upset about it. Turns out my team really only cared about the effort I was putting in. The auditing doesn’t usually click for people until a couple years sometimes. I don’t think most first years fully understand why they complete tasks a certain way.
Granted I’m not in audit, but I’m a S2 that is always in demand. There’s times I don’t understand what’s going on or what to do. It’s the nature of being in a profession where you’re always learning and it’s fast paced.
Number one thing for an intern is attitude — always have a good attitude and also always take notes when you are told things. You do those 2 things and you’ll get an offer
Here is some advice a partner once told me : “Fake it till you make it”
You will be just fine. Keep a good attitude, ask for work, and above all, don’t complain about the process being less than ideal.
welcome to the profession!!
Work on developing relationships with your peers. Will help to compensate lack of support from superiors.
Sounds like a typical internship tbh, albeit the WFH definitely makes it tougher on interns and new staff. Don’t worry. You’ll be fine 👌🏻
