Today I spoke to an elderly lady who went to the wrong car dealership, got confused, and was convinced to pay $10k just as a “deposit” for a car. She wanted to walk away but never got an invoice, and now they ignore her refund requests. As a bank, we couldn’t do much, and it broke my heart. How is it okay to take advantage of someone’s lack of knowledge? Do you also deal with stuff that stick with you long after your shift?

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

At a different job I had a customer trying to swindle me in telling me that there was a deal in an item that never had a deal or promotion for sale so he made me scan the item 20 times before believing me. Obviously, he finally let it go but I scan it with an inventory scanner that showed me all of the sale price promotions if there were any
