I wouldn't say its normal to have that many interviews for a retail position. The most I have been made aware of is two. One with the interviewer and one with a manager. It really depends on what type of retail this is. Is it mainstream stores, boutiques? I personally think if a company has to interview you more than once they do not have an adequate interviewer process in place- I would message in, in regards to this prolonging, any questions they may have, could have been answered during the first meeting. I hope you get your answer.
I've had no more than two rounds and that was for a management job. I don't see a need for three rounds but hopefully that was the last round. I would just be cautiously optimistic.

For a retail role, three rounds does feel excessive unless it is higher level. Sometimes it is a sign of indecision rather than thoroughness. It is fair to question what they still need to learn about you after two in person interviews.
Three rounds for retail is unusual, but it’s becoming more common with corporate involvement or leadership roles. You’re probably a strong contender, they wouldn’t invest that much time if you weren’t on their shortlist.
