I would diversify depending on your preference - I have both the AMEX and Chase trifecta and especially works out for my Hyatt hotel stays
Struggling to find the value of my chase points
Amex blue gets me 6% on gas and groceries. Usually make up the annual fee after just two months of points from routine spending. Super clutch imo
Amex Blue Cash Preferred is an *amazing* card if you have a family and/or go on a lot of road trips, however being single (even as someone who likes to cook and has decent groceries spend) and traveling for work by plane I did not find it worth it to renew the card after the first year. I downgraded to the no annual fee version and now I use my vanilla BofA no annual fee card for groceries (with Preferred status, I get more cash back).
My main card now is the Amex Green (better balanced points categories and perks), also bc it has no foreign transaction fees (which the Amex cash back cards do have).
Also been heavily doing all the side point bonuses. Referred a friend for Amex gold and got 90k points + 9x points on dining for 3 months. Also had 10x points on select restaurants (80% of nyc) on Platinum for 6 months. Chase seems to have less of these high earn bonuses and schemes…?
I like to do Chase for hotels & taxis (3x) because I often find it easier to use those points
Combinable points don't matter much - you want points pools with a variety of redemption options

Yup, that’s right!
But does Amex give you back 33% off when using points?
What do you mean?
Wow, the Amex checking account must be recent. When I was looking around earlier this year comparing, before I ended up getting my two BofA cards, all Amex had were savings accounts.
I’ll have to compare this stack to see if I fare better with BofA. I get 5.25% back on gas, 3.5% on groceries, 2.62% back on anything else that can go on a credit card, but basically nil interest on my savings, and no rewards -or- interest on checking (which my mortgage and HOA hit, along with CC payments)
I believe there are a couple cards (maybe capital one venture?) that offer 2 points across the board on all purchases, which may be a good add some stuff that doesn’t fit into the Amex categories you listed.
The Citi Double Cash is 2% cash back on everything.
