It’s fine to not want to implement AI solutions, and it won’t hurt you if you make that choice, but you definitely need to learn how to use it to your advantage in your day-to-day work. The reason I say this is because your peers will be cranking out proposals and deliverables 10x faster than you, which will make you appear as a poor performer. I am also a consultant and in my mid 30s.
100% and also being able to identify where it will benefit clients.
28 and no desire either, I honestly think that it will harm us more as people become too reliant on it to do basic things. Literacy is falling and soon we won’t be able to hire people with basic writing skills or comprehension
Let me guess your also worried about our people’a math skills and whether they can grow their own crops. Verbal communication and relationships will be the most valuable asset in 5 to 8 years.
Like it or not like it is irrelevant. What roles AI can play in making processes more effective and/or efficient is significant. At your age you have the potential for a long career ahead if you — or not. I am 64 years old and have spent money, energy and time to learn about AI. It does not matter your occupation — surgeon, accountant, hairdresser — AI will impact your ability to earn a living. So do yourself a favor and get acquainted with ChatGPT just as a fun experiment.
I find it troubling for ethical reasons as well as reasons of quality control. There was a recent article in New York Magazine about what's known as AI Slop. That's essentially all the generated copy that's flooding the web and creating some serious problems. And I'll see people talking about using ChatGPT to write things and it's startling. There was a recent news story about how half the country doesn't read above a sixth grade level, and that explains a lot. People are generating stuff by AI and they're just not sharp enough to know how mediocre and generic it is.
Today, ChatGPT is best at initial stages of a process (“create an outline of…”) to spur greater breadth or detail in thinking about a subject, and also at linguistic tweaking/error checking (“limit your response to 500 words”). Anyone who relies on AI for an A-Z finished product is in for a world of hurt. It can be quite amusing to see someone attempt to pass off AI work as their own. Raw AI output can be frighteningly insightful and hilariously naive. Never ever trust it without good old fashioned human review.

I’m hoping it’ll just be the latest tech fad that goes out of style shortly, just like Blockchain, the Metaverse, Google glasses, etc. etc.
Have you tried it yet? My partner is a tech hater, but still realised it was a net time saver very early on.
Or don’t; we don’t need any more competition:p
Yes. You are shooting yourself in foot. Be interested in
- how it could make your work easier/faster/more efficient
- how it could change the future of your job/career progression
- how it could make your personal life easier
You’ll eventually fall behind others.
