I have a month of PTO coming and currently live in a part of CA where most things are closed. What do you suggest to do in my free time? I’ll be using a lot of it to study for my CPA exams but realistically ill still have a good few hours of free time left everyday everyday.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? Publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. Graduated in 2014. Base comp is $127.5k in the Philly area. I see salaries all over the place in this site and it’s hard to tell whether mine is competitive.

I have observed that people on testing domain or frontend are getting better pay than other new tech domains like blockchain, cyber security, data sci etc(4-11yr exp) .
For less than 4 years experience new tech job gettig good pay but others getting very less.

In dev job Java, spring r etc getting better pay. Also some SAP consultant are also get paid high.

Home office preference question. I am getting ready to redo the layout of my home office. One option I'm considering would have my desk facing a wall. How many of you have been flying to clients?

Has anybody else experienced (what seems like) irreversible physical damage from working long hours? I worked about a month of 19 hour days 2 years ago (this was the peak of the season where I worked at least 12 hours a day) and my facial skin hasn't really recovered and the experience really aged me.

Recently promoted senior and the raise was surprisingly higher than expected. I had applied to a position before knowing about the promotion and raise. I don’t think the position will be able to match the new raise since I was promoted early (new job level is based on years of experience rather than title). Should I politely bow out?
