Not sure if I think Imran Khan has a large heart but I think Pakistan turned out to be the winner in this whole episode. Imran Khan has scored some major political points on the world stage and at home as well.

It will be difficult for India to recover from this for a while is what I think.

I’m still yet to see what damages our MiGs have actually caused

like

MiG costs Modi to India for another term!

On another note, Indian media deserves all the criticism for raising the war cry sitting from their news rooms. Media needs to act more maturely and not arouse the passions of aam junta so much. Things like inviting panelists and discussing the war strategy and attack options on prime time television is equivalent of making a mockery of a serious subject like war.

like

Very valid point . It’s not just war. It’s can easily go nuclear. And that can destroy the planet

isn’t Imran Khan trying to follow the Geneva convention with his touch?

like

Why do we keep quoting the Geneva convention. It’s not like Pakistan follows the rule of law internally, leave alone internationally. Imran Khan did it as a gesture of good will and honestly it was a political masterstroke and very well done

funny

That’s our problem. If someone has a different point of view than the populist view he becomes anti nationalist. The reality is..our 40 people died, our plane went down and our soldier got arrested...what did we do in return? Ghanta

like

Exactly. That’s all we have in terms of real verifiable fact. End of story. If something else comes up, we can debate

Hopefully that ‘huge heart’ will address the real problem

like

I would not go that far to give credit to the head of a terrorist state but I can tell you this that it was good global diplomacy semantics & a decision in his nation’s self interest. If Pakistan hadn’t complied we would have been on a war path, one that Pakistan cannot afford .

If u love imran you are free to move to that country (unless you are one of those fake we).

It is not big heart.... it was pressure from multiple factors ... Geneva convention, using F-16 to attack ( sanctions when the economy is about to collapse without Saudi bailout), a 60 year old design (Mig 21) beating F-16 could kill its sales (I.e., lobby from US defense to not release details and get what India needs), Indian diplomacy pressures , all made them agree for release...

like

And I would ask why India used a 60 old design in the first place

Mck 1 - Yes, images of the downed F16 has been provided to the media. Additionally, the amram (specific ammunition) carried by F16 that was dropped in IOK has also been provided as proof that the F16 was sent and did go down.

like

I know, I know. Still no point wasting your brain cells over a “consultant” who cant investigate and sift facts from fiction. Nationalism does wild things to the human brain.

like

Not sure about big heart but great diplomacy! Next day after the attack Pak says JeM was not involved, gives shelter to Masood Azhar.....these terrorist orgs can't get so much arms & ammunitions without Pak army support nor carry out attacks with precision & timing without support of domestic intelligence. IK speeches can would convert to peace talks only if they accept and take action against organizations.

And also rather than Modi promoting such retaliations as vote bank, we expect him to address the nation the next day like Obama did after killing Bin Laden.

like

If Pakistan released the PoW based on Geneva convention as other have implied above , then I am sure we will see Indian govt follow through with the decades old UN resolution on Kashmir soon, and let the people decide their fate. Looking forward to it

likefunny

If you read that UNSC article, the first clause states that Pakistan will remove its troops from Pakistan occupied Kashmiri and then the plebiscite will be held
. So whenever Imran Khan can convince the military to vacate shop, India iwill hold the vote

like

As per Geneva Concention , if Pakistan had not released him for 7 days , it would have considered as the act of war...
Good that Imran has not escalated it to that point..

like

Not true. India returned Pakistani POWs from 1971 war in 1974.

like

Also, Imran Khan doesn’t have a big heart when it comes to releasing the wing commander. Per the Geneva convention he would have to release the person once the situation deescalated. The Geneva Convention treaty does NOT mention any time frame within which POWs have to be returned. But please note, Imran Khan definitely took a very mature decision and showed that he and his govt do want peace and dialogue.

like

India has also shown the world that this country will not just quietly keep taking the terrorist attacks. Befitting responses will be provided. This has gathered international pressure under which Pak had to return the wing commander ASAP. Additionally, note that India was invited by the UAE to the Organization of the Islamic Countries meet as the guest of honor. Pak ministers did not attend the meeting due to this reason. What does that show? Pak still needs to go a long way when it comes to maturity and accepting that they need to clean up their house. Otherwise it won’t be too long before they have terror attacks on their own soil.

like

OP , India has returned more than 70k soldiers after 9171 war

like

I agree with SA1, it was not a big heart gesture, but a shrewd political move given the environment, winning the PR campaign and getting kudos internationally. Overall, well played by IK.

You know what else is

You know what else is in the Geneva convention? Don’t use human shields. Yet our Indian army did that and many of you were ok with it?

Definitely a good gesture, but I feel it’s politically motivated. I agree he does look good on world stage now
