How much do your personal beliefs influence your work, and in what ways? For example, if you were a Bernie Bro, would you ever represent Trump or a Trump-endorsed/affiliated person/entity, and vice versa? Do you think you have an obligation to turn down work for a client whose beliefs you personally find repulsive? Or do you think your obligation is to set aside your personal beliefs and act in your client’s best interest regardless of how distasteful you may find them to be?

My black experience at my current place....... supervisor is known to be racist at a diversity and inclusion school. Great! Unfortunately I am the ONLY black person in our department. What do you do when you need to put in your 2 weeks but the partner you work with the most is not in the office and is ignoring emails? Do you just put in your notice to HR and other random partners?

Do you have any tips for managing up? I’m a midlevel. Often times partners are sitting on the docs before they confirm sign off or provide comments. This is sometimes a problem when clients want to close asap (they send chasers, etc).

A ways back, I was grabbing coffee in the Financial District when the young woman ringing me up said, “…you have all those tattoos and a septum piercing and you work around here?” I nodded “yes,” and said that I worked in tech. She was amazed that a woman that looked like me could get hired and work in a professional setting. I think it gave her confidence that she could do it too.

Used to be a cop that wasn’t allowed to have visible tattoos. Now I have 5 (only two visible) 🙃.
