Yes seems India has a better control over Corona compared to other countries
Absolutely! She’ll get better care back home. I’m nervous about my mum too, she’s 63 and we’re looking at sending her home earlier.
India has started to quarantine people coming from certain countries and I feel Usa will be on that list soon.
Extending parents’ stay. India seems have a handle on paper, but not many are getting tested there too. Chaotic incoming airport screening and possible lockdown there will be hugely inconvenient for my parents.
Pro
Do check with Indian authorities about incoming travel. Last I heard; India is screening everyone at airports. So your mom might face some inconvenience.
Also, please make sure that you give her enough hand sanitizer and wipes for the way. Airports could have unknown carriers.
I decided to extend my parents’ stay by a few weeks. From what I have heard, there is long wait (6+ hours) at the Delhi airport to get through immigration because of this screening. And folks are waiting amongst 100s of other people. I wasn’t comfortable having my folks in that kind of exposure. Nevertheless, it is a tough decision and can’t judge what is right or wrong at this point.
How long are you extending their stay until
At least till Jun 15, when their 6 months is up. I will then check renewal options if this virus is still around.
I extended until may first week ( that’s when their 6 months are up). Thinking in about applying for an extension beyond that right away as that process also takes time.
If she's on a visa, I recommend her going home now. I know the lines are a little long, but no saying how much longer they will get, and what additional restrictions she could face later if US count spikes. That coupled with the fact that her stay will run out in 6 months, I'd have her go back now.
My parents scheduled to leave in June when their 6 months ends. Waiting for clarity on how this situation is going to play out further.

Ok everyone yes my moms stay ends in June as well, I lost the window to send sooner, please keep this thread updated with new leads you get. Any immigration attorney’s you know in chicago area that can help with visitor visa extension?
You don’t need an attorney. I did that two years ago for my mom on the grounds of medical thing at that time. You can file all the forms yourself, of course they came back with RFE and submitted more evidences and in the end it was approved. No questions asked when she came back in this year.
It wasn’t online two years ago. Was paper based. By the time the approval came in which took 3-4 months it was time for to her leave. But you are good as long as you file the extension 45-60 days before the the last date on the I-94. They sent a receipt and then the RFE and final approval came. Overall took 4 months I think.

Did any of you hire attorney to file an extension for your parents or filed it yourself online? I am also looking at it now. Can someone send a screenshot of the rationale you attached in case it got approved please? How many days before expiry did you apply and how many days did you get it extended for?
