Rising Star
Well arguably the Indian subcontinent was probably one of the most advanced economies before the industrial revolution.
I think the world works in cycles, during both the Indus valley civilization and Mauryan civilization the area was the most advanced in the world.
So that is three eras of significant domination.
I think because the subcontinent was so fertile with the Indus, Ganges and their tributaries - that the region was prosperous. There was no need to go to less hospitable regions, however for the mongols, Turkic tribes who came from less hospitable terrains conquering India made sense.
Civic sense and national pride
We were captured by the east india company by then and they turned us into a consuming population and not themselves into a manufacturing hub
As a nation or a geographic entity, we lack in many areas like ambition, vision, exploration etc.
Indians never really tried to expand Indian kingdoms beyond the Indian subcontinent. This shows lack of ambition and vision that most Indian rulers had. Control of greater geographical area brings greater amount of trade, greater amount of trade requires rapid of production of goods which in a way prompted industrialization of Europe, primarily beginning from England.
The way Arabs, British, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russians expanded their empires and exported their language and culture, Indians never did any of that and don’t have vision or ambition for that even today.
EYP - I know about Chola Empire but expansion of Chola Empire was very tiny compared to British empire, Spanish Empire, Umayyad Caliphate, Roman Empire etc. more over cholas couldn’t even rule entire India.
Subcontinent was ravaged and ruled by invaders when industrial revolution started - who destroyed universities and subverted scientific temperament and developmental thinking.
