I think I would have went with:
1. something you work a ton, but is more lucrative (investment banking, law)
2. something with more transferrable skills (product or project management, programmer, etc.)
3. something with better work-life balance (public sector job)
I love the challenges advertising has and when it's fun, it's a lot of fun. But I do wonder what a different life would be like...
Sure, sometimes I wonder if the grass is really greener somewhere else. I often feel like I'm working pretty hard, but so many things in my work depend upon the decisions, or, whims to be honest, of others. I wonder sometimes if I'd be better off in a business where things couldn't get derailed by a few fickle decision makers.
Regrets? For sure. This will pass. Hang in there. Nothing in life is permanent.
I wish I bought gold back when I graduated from high school in 2000. There used to be all these ads with G Gordon Libby about buying gold and it was basically under 275 an ounce (the lowest it had been in decades before and since) that same amount of gold is worth 2500 today. I had like save 10,000 grand and thought I could get like 2 16 ounce gold bars, but my dad told me to leave it in the bank.
Who knew a somewhat scammy ad could’ve paid off.
Might be time to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” if you agent seen it. Or just get some wine and popcorn and watch it again.
