Any advice or resources for improving speaking/communication skills? English is my second language and even after 10+ years in the US, I still don’t feel fully confident when speaking, especially in interviews.
I’ve looked into Toastmasters, but with two kids under two it’s hard to commit to something structured. Would love any bite-sized ways people practice.

Any tips for how an undergrad (i have a politics degree) could position herself as ready for financial/corp comms? Perhaps, any specific certification? I have had experience in some agencies working on corporate/finance/legal clients but it has not resulted in any interviews opportunity especially with the banks/ financial brands? What could be the issue?

For the people who earned the SHRM-CP, did you feel it was worth it? I have an indirect HR position, been applying for more HR focused positions and wondering if this would help. I got the CAPM (certified associate of project management) in December, but that hasn’t really changed things. Would love some opinions before working on another certification!

As I have been given fixed salary and remote work. But on offer it states EPAM systems.

Hi, I have a 2 part question:

I did a “meet the team” interview 2 weeks ago and now the hiring manager set up a call on Tuesday. Is it safe to assume that’s a call to extend an offer?

If that’s a reasonable assumption, could I let another company (finished interviews last Friday) know ahead of time on Monday that I’m expecting an offer in the hopes of speeding up their decision making?

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.

So In addition to it being my first social work position in a hospital I am creating my position, with a lack of supervision. I am in rural mammoth lakes ca where the cost of living is very high (ski town). I have my BSW and am set to graduate with my MSW in December. I am hoping to negotiate my pay currently I am at 31.69 hourly. Any guidance is great

I make $100K with 12% bonus and was offered a role $130k with 15-20% bonus. 4YOE in provider industry.

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

In house interview- I am going to hopefully the final round of interview to meet the whole legal team. I was asked about my availability, and it will take 5 hours if in one day. Should I split to multiple days? Will it cause any issues? Anyone on both sides can speak from their experience? Thanks!

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

I have the option to leave Biglaw for in-house position at Fortune 100 for 320k TC with 10 YOE in HCOLC. This is my first in-house role and so I wanted others' thoughts on TC range for my level.

Have interviews set up at FAANG co and getting good signals, for a position that was posted widely (all across US) but not remote. Haven’t broached the subject of location yet. I am currently in ID and wanting a miracle in-house position. I recently learned that the VP of Lit for an ins. carrier was promoted leaving her position open. I’m unsure if they’re planning to fill that vacant role. I’d like to approach her about my general interest of going in house (asking her how she did it herself) and mention my interest with her company. I know this is a sensitive topic as she gives me cases. I have a great professional and personal rapport with her. Any tips?

How did current in-house attorneys find their positions? I am currently in big law with 3 years of experience. Seems that most recruiters can only help me lateral to other big law firms.
