Not informed about the rebels but I am 100% against Bashar so I like them. Seem religious when they speak as opposed to Bashar who slaughtered his people with the help of others and is openly declared as a Kaffir by respected scholars like Uthman Khamis.
This is the biggest problem with people in our community. Get enchanted by surface level optics and gravitate towards those that issue out fatwas declaring others kafir
There is not both sides, there are many groups and ever changing alliances and positions. Do not look at things in dualities. There are Many proxies backed by the west, including foreign groups and actual terrorists. Assad is a remnant of the Baa’th Party movement, an Arab Nationalist movement, from the same block as Saddam in Iraq. There are also eastern proxies and groups acting independently in Syria as a strategic interest. This includes Hezbollah directly engaging Al Nusra, ISIS and other groups fighting to take down Assad and potentially threaten the supply lines from Syria.
it’s incredibly complex but imo I would rather have Assad stay in power and be removed by Syrians organically w/o the help or debt of foreign nations. I’ve met Syrians on both sides of Assad. It’s not our place to decide their nations fate.
Still a reductive take on your end. Kurdish controlled syria in the N/E has less strategic interests.
You’re saying HTS and other groups that were affiliated with ISIS and who have fighters that are not even Syrian are rebels and we should support them because they want to take down Assad? All while Turkiye operates in the north pounding Kurds, US siphons Syrian oil for free, Israel still holding the Golan, but we should focus on removing Assad?
Assad is lowest, most predictable, most manageable threat in Syria. Where are you even from? It sounds like you’re just aligning with the US state department.
Doesn’t matter muslims are killing each other israel wins
HTS is extreme compared to other rebel groups, but who knows how they’ve changed since 2016. The Syrian rebels are huge and very diverse. US used to supposed SDF against Assad but they’re not the ones in control of Aleppo — HTS is. So if you’re anti Assad (as you should be) then HTS is our bet.
