They in my opinion are usually time wasters. I work through a lot of recruiters and can tell which ones will be good/ wasting time within the first 10 minutes.
Hit or miss. I’ve gotten a position through them before (at the time it was Selby Jennings before they split off sectors to Larson maddox). This last round they were more like sharks, as soon as one got wind that I was willing to relocate west coast I would get multiple calls in a day. Normally they have salary ranges but it’s not always direct or locked in stone, but I’ve found them to be pretty up front with ranges. In the past 4 months I had 4 pending leads with them. One had interviews and I think would have led to an offer, but I personally turned it down after the second interview (just not right fit for me). The other 3 never heard one way or the other . The recruiters were nice though when I followed up to say I’ve gotten an offer, I assume that pending one isn’t going anywhere but just as an FYI. My friend had a lead that led to an offer with them. They are a typical recruiting firm so the push for that close if interviews take place and will push you to accept so it’s better to feel good about the job from the beginning if you want to avoid the hard sell at the end. These were also all reach outs from them, I did not engage them first.
Did you ever reach the point of salary discussions?
With them yeah, but I get bites and at least a client call on about 40-50% of the calls I’ve had with recuriters. They are at 0%
The only thing I can say is that after repeatedly saying we are not hiring right now and don’t need IP attorneys my phone keeps getting blown off with the question: hey wanted to check in and see if you guys are interested in adding anyone to your team. What really got me was that the person sent an email and got my OOO saying that I was studying for the CA bar and unavailable until March 1, and still decided the best thing to do was call. Haven’t worked with them, but given this experience not sure I would.
