Worked in DOL but not in that position. You have a chance, it's just that federal hiring favors (1) internals and (2) veterans so it is difficult to break in. Work balance in the feds is amazing compared to private practice. They love competence of course but the feds (above all else, imo) love true believers. So be prepared to talk about the various agencies and any part of the job description that is a passion for you. Best of luck

6 year plaintiff’s side PI/Med-Mal/Catastrophic Injury here. Have a little 2nd chair experience at trial, and really nothing to speak of in labor law… but have dealt with Federal Tort Claims Act and Medicare Secondary Payer before, so have some experience with administrative law. Think I stand a chance at acceptance? Is the rumored work-life balance of government work applicable to litigation as well? What can I do to stand out among the applicants?
