"Hi, I'm Attorney. I just opened my own practice and was wondering if I could take you out to lunch to learn more about your practice."
Look for someone that has something in common with you. Law School, mutual LinkedIn group. Anything. They'll talk.

Thanks. Will try this approach.
I have a solo practice with no advertising. I get referrals from other attorneys based on a variety of working relationships that took years to develop. In the meantime, I have worked as an independent contractor / Of Counsel for a couple firms. I do refer out to younger solos who I meet in my networking group.
Sure
Local bar, local practice groups, IG & regular networking will be your best friend. I met a colleague who’s now become a good friend at the gym; he’s been my biggest source of referrals and has completely transformed my practice with all the cases he’s sent me.
You’ll meet the older solos/firm owners at bar events and practice area events because they’re largely the demographic that goes to those. There are plenty that are happy to offload smaller/less desirable cases for referral fees, and with great results they’ll naturally send you more and more cases.

Thanks. Will look into it.
What’s your practice area?

Main practice area is health law - transactional & regulatory compliance. Also offering services in general business law (entity formation, contract drafting/review), and straightforward immigration law cases.
In the same practice areas as you OP and also struggling to find mentors organically. Based in NYC and have a pretty robust pipeline of work coming in from non-lawyer friends and acquaintances who own businesses, but I feel I’m massively lacking on having an attorney to bounce ideas off of.
