I didn’t because I have been in remote roles, but colleagues in previous companies definitely went this route. I think my colleagues already had a documented disability (e.g. ADHD), but I don’t think this is a requirement. Usually, if the doctor says you need the accommodation then the company will do that (within reason). Check with HR to know the process and documentation required. I would recommend that you avoid disclosing details about why you need the accommodation at this point, and let the doctor phrase those in the right way first. Once you do get approved for remote work, stay vigilant about being visible and integrated with your team and company.
