They used SQL injections. If you know your software engineering, the method is decades old and has existed since, well, SQL has existed. That is classic way to hack into any system - with or without AI. It says a lot about how awful McKinsey’s system design is and their absolute lack of basic software engineering principles. They could’ve done it even without using agents, with just brute force. Which make sense as I have no clue why a good software engineer will join a management consulting firm.
I think AI should slow down - because we have no framework in place to deal with mass unemployment catastrophe or incredible strain on natural resources. This is the first tech where success is hinged on replacing as many humans as possible (regardless of what tech bros say). But this incident is a reflection on McKinsey mediocre tech dev capabilities, as opposed to AI. It wasn’t Claude , or gemini or any of the leading models, There is a reason why a no name tech startup decided to target them to secure some funding for themselves.
Honestly, the Lilli team was/is subpar compared to actual tech product teams. It’s very hyped externally. Those of us with some technical knowledge internally rarely use it, so this isn’t a surprise.
Naaaaaa - pedal to the metal
What does Mckinsey know about AI systems and cybersecurity?
This is their internal AI thing. They “advise” on AI now too so… but yeah, in 2 hours they “hacked” their AI and had access to all internal corporate records.
I think it should go full speed ahead. It will need to crash a few times anyway to get it right. I wouldn’t trust anyone who tells you they know the right solution as they would be lying
