Red Hook day trip! Burger at the tavern, drinks at Sunny’s, Pioneer Works opens back up in Sept, and the drag on Van Brunt is littered with cool shops, cafes, and bars. Also it’s fun to coordinate with friends to meet up at Wall St., and then take the ferry over ⛴️ ⛴️ ⛴️
Rising Star
Antonio (Sunny) was the best. RIP
controversial opinion but i love a summer trip out to coney island! I love going with a small group of friends, getting a hot dog or corn dog, and walking around with a beer! It gets a bad rap but I always have fun out there
I love coney haha if you know what you’re getting into it’s a blast. If you go there expecting nice beaches or a boardwalk that isn’t dated as hell, you’ll be disappointed.
But go get a hot dog, have a beer, ride the cyclone, go to a baseball game. It’s a blast
The New York Historical Society is wonderful. They always have brilliant exhibits, and the permanent collection is full of fascinating items. Their gift shop is also amazing, if you want to get someone a New York centric present, that's the place to go. Also brilliant if anyone likes history, Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. It's easy to get to on the R train, and it's definitely an offbeat and fascinating way to spend a nice day. Say hello to Horace Greeley, Boss Tweed, and William "Bill the Butcher" Poole.
I honestly enjoy the “historical” bars here. Oh, George Washington gave his farewell address as a general here? Pride started here, as a riot? This speakeasy actually operated as one during prohibition? Yeah I’ll drink to that
Next to Paris, NY best walking city on the planet (https://www.amazon.com/Going-Into-Town-Love-Letter/dp/1620403218/ref=asc_df_1620403218/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693033695502&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8018545363456772923&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003302&hvtargid=pla-384288697122&psc=1&mcid=4ee46b2ee4783dfd8f5df8914367ae54&gad_source=1).
Funny story: after visiting the Whitney (on the list fo shizz), stopped in for a martini at The Old Homestead - oldest steak joint in NYC. Group at bar: “where you guys from?” Us: “we live off Columbus Circle.” Them: “oh, we don’t get people from out of town that often.”
Anyway, Little Island and the High Line go without saying. The Morgan Library is a gem; there’s also a cool Jewish Museum with a lot of interest off 5th UES. I still say the back and forth on the Staton Island Ferry, esp. in the fall, is fun—very touristy. I dunno about Empire State, but have had tickets for the Edge in Hudson Yards to look down through the glass floor a jillion stories below. Waiting for it not to be hotter than the surface of the sun to use ‘em.
I suggest a day trip/picnic on Governor’s Island!
