This might be too ambiguous to answer, but I want to get better at taking iniative, but I don't know how. I can be pretty shy in work settings. I do things without being told, but I want to go beyond that like start projects etc. Provide more value.

Just be sure of what you are capable of doing and propose your projects or ideas so others can relate, approve or help with your projects.

do you have any concrete ideas about the kind of projects you can pursue?

Closed mouth don't get fed. Talking to people is your best resource for finding opportunities. Who do you need to talk to to get a promotion? Are there any senior members of your team who can advise you or even mentor you? You want more responsibilities, who can assign them to you?

Any clue where that shyness stems from? It's important that you're not afraid to speak up, otherwise your team misses out on the valuable input you could be providing.

Maybe we gotta hear more about what exactly you do at work? That way we can make it less ambiguous and give you more specific pointers

You can start by identifying what it is that you want to do. Once you have a specific goal in mind, look for opportunities to take the lead. For example, if you want to start a new project at work, offer to spearhead the effort.

Any thoughts on how do we deal with an incompetent boss who you dont look up to and have no trust that you would ever get credit for the work you would do for him/her? Given that changing the boss is not an option.

Second problem, I have to go into the office in a couple of weeks and I’m starting to show. But I’m not ready to tell them yet. This situation is incredibly awkward and stressful.

DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

I am a field marketer. I travel and cover 12 states. HQ is across the US on the east coast. My manager put a surprise calendar invite twice now to go to home office without consulting dates to see if we were available. I stood up and asked to be included on available dates and said I will attend virtually but asking me to be away for 4 additional full days away from my family without asking me is not OK. I already travel a lot and this boundary is super important to me. Am I right or wrong?
