A chick fil a degree?
As a Chick-fil-A alumni, it is our pleasure
I dont have a CFA. It is a tough three part exam. Extremely difficult (and unnecessary) way to extend your network.
Get the CFA if you want a career in investing.
It’s called a charter, and I’m 2/3rds of the way there. It’s definitely helped with adding some credibility to my profile
I can give you a different perspective of landing jobs unrelated to investing. I have the charter and maintain it by paying dues as the firm reimburses the dues. What i do in management consulting (EYP) is totally unrelated. But it adds credibility to your profile in job search. Proves you’re a hard worker. Helps you land good jobs (even unrelated) early in your career. After the first 5 years at your job, the significance wears off as your previous job profile takes a higher priority. I’ve heard first hand from my recruiting manager that they were impressed with my CFA charter when I was hired 7 years ago in this firm. Haven’t created a network from maintaining the charter and going to events myself. Most people at these events, even in New York, are aspirants, job seekers or want to sell something.
Isn't that most people at every event? Except for the speakers - they are there to either get paid or build out their resume to get paid/hired in the future :)...
It helps in job securing not seeking. Mainly for finance not just investing side though. You can go to CFA networking events but they’re no more helpful than any other networking events. It does allow you to ask for a premium since less than 20% if the industry has one. I did mine and was lucky enough to pass all three sections on the first attempt. I was smart enough to take it less than a year after graduating from my Masters of Finance program. So I still remembered most of the material then just had to learn newer concepts they didn’t teach in school. It’s a brutal process that takes one year to complete but every job since then I was able to get 20-30k more than I would have without it. I’d say I’ve made an extra 150k plus landed jobs ahead of people who don’t have them. But I was on the risk side of finance where it’s extremely necessary and helpful on a daily basis.
I have the charter but haven’t paid dues so technically not a CFA (left investing a few years back).. it helps with financial careers in buy side public investing, but not many others really care for it.

Unless buyside public markets investing, useless
