Anyone a member of a Manhattan social club/yacht club, etc. Worth it? My grandfather had a few memberships but I never really saw anything come out of it.

Bragging rights? Feelings of superiority over the excluded plebians?

The lack of responses here indicates you are all poor, cool

Depends on the club, but anything your grandfather was in is probably populated by retirees and wouldn’t be useful (Masonic lodge and the like).

Metropolitan Club, Downtown Association, Union Club, SoHo, etc.

Which yacht club? Do you own a boat? I’m pretty sure that’s a prerequisite for New York Yacht Club.

I sailed with Manhattan Yacht Club (now in Jersey lmfao) and it was okay but kinda a schlep from Manhattan. I usually sail now with Hudson River Community Sailing and I quite enjoy it. They have some social events but really it’s more for if you enjoy sailing.

I’m in a YC. Not currently a boat owner. Outside of manhattan.

Hello people of San Diego! Would love to hear how y’all are affording to live here comfortably. Please state your company, position, TC, YOE, and do you have a side hustle? I’ll start - I’m an advisor in Wealth Management with TC of $70k, 3 YOE and no side hustle. Among other things, rent just jumped from $2500 to $3700 for 2 bedroom and areas were looking at. I’d like to “make it” here but if it means switching career to make money I’d like to get an idea to make the right job change.

Kind of a quick rant. I did a quick search through some firms websites because I am thinking of switching jobs. It is definitely clear most firms still do not embrace diversity. I know diverse applicants must be just as qualified! So what is keeping attorneys of color out?? It’s so discouraging.

Is it possible for me to reenter US on tourist visa?

Possible to get into BigLaw or regional Big Law without top grades as a non-traditional lateral? Been out of law school several years, have five years of industry adjacent quasi legal experience and am in my second year at a traditional boutique firm practicing corp/securities.
I have an informal informational discussion with a partner at the big firm through a family member whose company gives a lot of business to this firm. Any examples/anecdotes?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. Long story short, I regret choosing the office that I chose. I’d like to transfer to another office - is that a difficult ask? I’m licensed in the state I’d like to transfer to. I don’t know how to make this request.

Hi, weird question for this forum, so I apologize. I’m trying to be creative here and use the tv stand that I have. The issue is that it has an open back so you can see all my tv wires. I can’t hide the wires because my building won’t let me open the wall. My idea was to slip a tile sheet that is wall behind the tv stand as a back, but I need the tile cut to the specific heigh and width of the tv stand. Does anyone know where I can take this tile sheet to get cut to the specific measurements?
