With agencies moving toward project-based work and less PMs to push that work along, it’s only natural that account steps in, and in some cases they are told to do so.
And remember, if accounts is breathing down your neck, senior leadership or client is breathing down theirs.
Everyone gets it from everywhere here.
This is the absolute reality…
The only people I need to do this with are usually strategists and “engagement strategists” who say yes to everything, take no notes, and deliver nothing on time
Everyone else is usually very responsible
In all seriousness, all the changes in the marketing services industry have been driven by clients needing/wanting more & faster - for the same or less budget (more pieces of content, more media placements, more social media, etc.). The only way to keep up with hyper-personalization creative & “just in time” contextual media is to increasingly have it turned over to AI, algorithms/programmatic, etc. The pace has become too much for people to keep up with on a sustainable basis. Thus the greater movement to in-house and/or agencies that really get the new landscape. Wish it wasn’t true, but this is what I’m seeing.
I’m an account Director and that personality is a disease that plagues the department.
Not sure how it started or why people still operate that way, but man does it blow. Especially working for those people when you don’t see eye to eye on approach.
Micromanaging is a way to feel in control of tasks that you don't have direct control over. I don't think anyone enjoys it (including the people who do it), but the alternative (sitting around hoping something will get done correctly) can make you feel even more powerless.
Depends on the account person. Most of the time they're just trying to not get fired like the rest of us
Yes, and I’m the client of these account folks. I’ve moved on from agency life, but some things don’t change.
Ok, I thought you were speaking from the agency side. Glad I’m not alone on this side 😂
Get an MBA so you can boss them around instead
This is probably valid this time
I wonder if AI gets annoyed by account people
Mine seem to think their main job is being a creative director. Can we trade?
