Is there something in particular that happened that is making you nervous your team is losing trust? I think that's the hardest part of being in people management is taking instruction from the top-down and enforcing policies with your team that you don't necessarily agree with. I think it's best to express where the orders are coming from and not fake it if you don't necessarily agree with upper management--that way at least your team is on your side
Yes you are right OP but at the end of the day that is what we get paid to do. Sometimes we have to do the hard things and we may not always be everyones favorite person but tha tis what they pay us to do. I don't micromanage but my team knows I don't play when it comes to policies and rules.
Accurate. We are often the face of unpopular policies and practices. I ensure I am clear with my team that I didn't make the rules, I am just a messenger, enforcer and/or victim of the same circumstances. Senior leadership is transparent enough to publish on our internal portal and speak in town halls about policies, so lower level people know their direct manager is generally not lying.
