Maybe think of it as having more open conversations with your employees about what they’d like to work on and what their career goals are. Then it’s more managing and less base delegating.
I agree. Be sure you’re having those constant conversations on where they want to go, what will it take to get there, and how you as the manager can help. When opportunities arise, the employee will most likely be eager to take it on because it’s aligns to their goal.
I had that issue at the beginning but had to be reminded that if you do the work of someone in the field than you will always be the point of contact and that should not be the case in your role.
Look at delegation as one of your mandatory responsibilities not a voluntary option.
