I’m in Vietnam right now. (Waiting under an awning for the rain to pass.) Not retired. I actually had a client call last night at 10 PM my time, 10 AM EST. I’m just using the opportunity to check out the culture and the food. But I see a lot of expats around my age (60s), many with local girlfriends. There’s a similar vibe in the Philippines. But the food isn’t as good. Mexico comes close, with amazing tacos. My wife and I have agreed that we both want to die in the almost paid off home we bought in the 90s. In perhaps the most expensive community in the US. But I see the allure of another country. Winters in my town are a drag. So maybe split our time? A dollar goes a long way in places where the average person lives on $5,000 a year. Just be aware of the various visa situations. I have friends who have been ousted from places like Thailand because they forgot to renew or did not report their income correctly.
Rising Star
Heh. Retiring.
Thinking about this all the time.
Absolutely yes
I’ve been doing research. Uruguay is on my radar. Relatively inexpensive, decent healthcare, politically stable, nice beaches. I do hear that Apple products are ridiculously expensive, though.
Cities: Montevideo, Punta del Este, Colonia del Sacramento, Piriápolis
The Apple products factoid was just something I remembered reading in a thread. People who had retired there were complaining about it.
